Let’s face it the good old British summer isn’t always about BBQs and blue skies. In fact the Met Office reported that 2024 was the UK’s coolest summer for nine years with average temperatures hovering around just 14.37°C. While we hope 2025 brings more sunshine, it’s wise to have a plan for those inevitable grey days or for those unbearably hot days where you just need a bit of respite. Enter summer skiing at South Wilts Ski Club. Whether you’re looking to raise your skill level, try something new or just want to have fun it’s the perfect summer adventure. And with our alpine-styled Clubhouse offering complimentary beverages, you can have a friends and family debrief. Want more reasons to visit us? Here are our top five.
1. Beat the Weather – Ski Rain or Shine
Our indoor dry slope keeps the fun going, whatever the weather. It’s the perfect activity for anyone aged five and up (eight for snowboarding). New to skiing? We’ll make you feel right at home. Our slope accommodates two skiers and boarders at a time, and for those looking to level up, our newly installed SkyTech Ski Simulator offers a dynamic, virtual slalom experience – ideal for sharpening your technique and chasing new personal bests.
2. Stay Ski-Fit All Year Round
Don’t lose your edge – skiing in summer keeps your muscles, balance, and technique sharp for the winter season. While summer skiing isn’t as accessible as winter skiing, it can be beneficial for building and maintain a strong skill base. Focusing on off-season training and technique work, even without snow, can lead to significant gains in strength, fitness and ski-specific skills. What’s more you don’t need to head to a glacier or the southern hemisphere to get yourself ski fit this summer, nope, just head over here, to South Wilts Ski Club.
Learn or Improve Without the Crowds
Summer is the perfect time to learn or improve your skiing. We’re less busy, giving you the opportunity to bag that ideal slot that slides into your time schedule seamlessly. And remember, each session comes with a friendly coach should you need their guidance. Book a lesson while everyone else is thinking about beaches, and you’ll be skiing smoother and faster by the time the snow starts falling. Fewer queues, better availability and more attention, that’s a win win in our book.
4. A Unique, Active Day Out
Swap the screens for slopes – it’s an exciting, healthy, and social activity that’s a great alternative to the usual cinema or shopping trip. Your personal development, watching yourself go from snow plough to parallel is incredibly rewarding. And, if you’re feeling competitive, our SkyTech Ski Simulator leaderboard adds an extra edge. Think you’ve got what it takes to knock instructor Craig off the top spot? There’s only one way to find out.
5.Take on the Everest Challenge!
Talking about feeling competitive we’re running the ultimate ski-off this summer – our Everest Challenge. Descend Everest from summit to sea level this summer and you could win yourself £1000. It’s tough – you’ll be skiing full tilt and full on for an hour. It’s fun, and totally Instagram worthy! Are you ready to take on the Challenge?
Whether it’s raining, cloudy or so hot that you need to seek solace indoors, there’s always a good reason to ski at South Wilts.
Happy Summer Skiing!
