Could you ski the height of Mount Everest without stopping? This summer, South Wilts Ski Club is challenging you to try.
In what might be the UK’s coolest challenge (literally), skiers are invited to tackle 8,848 vertical meters, the height of Everest from sea level – non-stop – on the club’s Infinity Slope (one of just four currently in the UK). And there’s a serious incentive: a £1,000 cash prize awaits the first person to do it.
What Is the Infinity Slope?
Forget ski lifts, queues, and icy falls, South Wilts Ski Club’s Infinity Slope is a continuously revolving skiing surface, designed to mimic the experience of skiing on snow. Unlike a dry slope or treadmill, it delivers a smooth, uninterrupted surface that challenges your technique, endurance, and mental grit.
The slope is ideal for all levels, from beginners taking their first turns to elite athletes fine-tuning every movement. You’re coached in real-time by expert instructors who tailor each session to your ability and goals.
If you keep going at full speed for an hour, it’s the equivalent of skiing from the top of Everest to sea level in one continuous run

What is the challenge?
The challenge is 1 hour at full speed and full elevation without stopping. This is a tough one and we would recommend you try skiing on the slope first before rising to the challenge.
So… Has Anyone Done It?
Just one person has conquered the Everest Challenge so far: Mike, one of South Wilts Ski Club’s own instructors. He pushed himself to the limit to complete the full height of Everest in a single session, a feat of physical stamina, technical skill, and total determination.
Thinking of giving it a go? Mike has some advice: pace yourself, vary your technique, and above all, prepare for a serious workout. If you want to learn more check out his video here.
Why Take the Challenge?
Apart from the £1,000 prize, this is a unique opportunity to test your skiing limits in a safe, coached environment, and escape the sweltering summer heat in the process. Whether you’re a competitive athlete or a recreational skier with a stubborn streak, this is the ultimate test of ski fitness.
The challenge is open now and runs until 30th September 2025. Only one person can win — will it be you?
